Chantry Guides - Parliament Week visit

17th Nov 2017

Girlguiding Anglia organised a tour of Parliament to coincide with Parliament Week (13-19 November).  Units which had registered to receive the special activity pack (250 across the Region!) were able to enter a draw to win a place on the tour.

2nd Chantry Guides were delighted to be chosen to join the tour and selected the  Guides for the 3 available places using the mini ballot box provided with the activity pack. We met outside the Houses of Parliament on Friday 17 November, joining 2 Rainbows, 6 Brownies, 3 more Guides, 2 Senior Section members, their Leaders and Maxine the Region Communications Adviser. The other units had travelled from Hertfordshire, Cambridge and Norwich.

We were given an entertaining 75 minute tour and learned a lot of history. Everyone was surprised that the Houses of Commons and Lords were so much smaller than they appeared on television. We were expressly forbidden from sitting on the benches in either house as we were not members!

Thank you to Anglia Region for this wonderful opportunity and for preparing an activity pack which helped the whole unit learn more about democracy and the roles of women in Parliament.
